How to set up a fishing pole? If you are eager to dive into the fishing hobby, then you should know the answer to this question. Otherwise, you will never have a pleasurable time while on the waters. After all, it is the pole that dictates the success rate of getting a prized trophy.
There are some basic things that you should always do whenever you set up your fishing mole. It doesn't matter what kind of fish you want to catch. Just follow these methods we will show you so that your rod will be stable and rigid thoroughly.
How to Set Up a Fishing Pole
Rod and Reel Assembly
The first thing that you should do is to figure the different parts of the fishing pole. Contrary to popular belief, fishing poles are very complex. It is not just a simple metal piece that holds your fishing line. Therefore, it is necessary that you learn more about this equipment before you even start the assembly.
If the rod that you have can be broken into two parts or more, then the joint that connects the two section is the ferrule. There is a male and female ferrule, in which the former inserts into the latter.
Meanwhile, the other term for the handle is the grip. This part is where you hold the rod. The thickest part of the bar is the butt, and the most flexible one is the tip. In a sense, the flexibility of the fishing rod decreases from top to bottom. This kind of design is necessary so that it can handle the resistance of the fish.
Of course, you should not also forget the rings or the "guides" that are present in the body of the rod. They are ones that hold the fishing line for optimal stability.
Cleaning the Rod
Before you go fishing, it is important that you have to clean your tools. The same applies with your fishing pole. Cleaning it is necessary so that it can provide reliable traction. Moreover, this will prevent any debris or dirt from scratching the rod. You can use a cotton swab in cleaning the female ferrule.
The primary goal of cleaning is to preserve the lifespan of the rod. Of course, you should know that dirt can destroy the joints that hold the pieces of a fishing pole.
Putting the Pieces Together
On a flat surface, align the male and female ferrules. Take a good grip to the female ferrule while anchoring the male ferrule towards it. You can use the guide to make sure that the ferrules are aligned correctly.
If you notice that the ferrules won't connect to each other, do not push it anymore. Instead, look at the instruction manual of the fishing. Are there any locking components that are missing? You might damage the rod if you forcefully connect them.
You should also know that when connecting the pieces, rotating them is necessary. Do not directly insert the male ferrule to the female ferrule directly because it can cause scratches and damages. By rotating, you are locking the pieces together.
Attaching the Reel
Look at the bottom of the pole. You will see an opening in where you can put the reel. Technically, this part is the reel seat. Insert the reel there. Next, take the reel seat and put it on the bottom part of the reel. By doing this process, the reel seat will automatically thread to the reel. However, you still have to rotate the pieces so that they can have a snugly fit.
Do not over-tighten the reel. Forcibly threading these parts may cause cracks, which will eventually ruin your pole. You should also remember the direction of threading. Threading to the right means that you are tightening the connection. Of course, the opposite should happen if you thread the reel to the left.
Threading the Pole
The first thing you need to do is to take the bale arm. Specifically, this part is the silver piece located on the reel. When threading the line, just apply minimal pressure only. It doesn't take too much force to flip the arm on the other side of the pole. After you lift the bale arm, you can already pull the thread's edge. Pulling the thread will cause the reel to unravel the rest of it.
Of course, you need to be cautious on this part. If the bale is not lifting, then there is a good chance that you got the wrong one. As we mentioned earlier, you don't need too much muscle to lift your bale.
Moreover, do not forget to check the spool. Assess if the line is unwinding on the same direction as the reel. If that is not the case, then you might encounter knots and twists. To correct the course, just turn the spool.
The assembly of a fishing pole is the most important preparation for any fishers. Aside from the selection of lures and fishing lines, the correct handling of the pole will determine the success rate of your catches. A poorly constructed pole will not yield good results. That is a given fact.
Meanwhile, you should realize that the overall quality of your pole matters. Despite how good you are in the assembly process, if the pole itself is low-quality, you can never expect an outstanding performance from it. Therefore, it is also vital to get a decent pole.
